How a gift works

  1. Pick two genres that suit them and name them as the hero, or give the hero a name they would love.
  2. Tell us the story. A shared joke, a place you both know, the adventure they never had. The more you give us, the more the book is theirs. You read page one free before you pay.
  3. Tick "This is a gift" and add their name and email, your name, a message for the card and the day it should arrive.
  4. We write it straight away and hold it. You get an email when it is ready. On the day, they get the card with your message and their book.

What they receive

An email on the day you picked, with your message, their book as an EPUB for a phone or e-reader and a PDF for everything else. If you chose the audiobook, it is on their book's page, read aloud in the voice you picked. The links stay live for 90 days.

There is no shipping, so there is no shipping deadline. A gift bought on the day still arrives on the day.

Can I read it before they do?

You read page one before you pay, so you know the voice and how it begins. After that the book is theirs: nobody reads it before they do, us included.

Can I change the day or the message?

Yes. Reply to the email that tells you the book is ready and we will change the day, the message or the address before it goes.

What time does it arrive?

During the day you chose: early afternoon in South Africa and the UK, morning in the Americas. Leave the date empty and it goes as soon as it is written, usually about two hours after you pay.

Can I use their real name?

Yes, as a gift they will be glad of. We turn down briefs that target a real, living person without their say-so. See clause 3 of our terms.

Is it written by AI?

Yes. Every book is written with AI assistance, for one reader only, and says so on its final page. We will not pretend otherwise.
